February 2025 School Board Meeting Briefing

Meeting Highlights:

Celebrations: The boy's basketball team's win, the African-American history celebration, CTE District of Distinction, and upcoming Graduation (May 23 @ 6 pm)
Reports: Faculty report on teacher incentives/morale moved to March. Concerns were raised about existing facility improvements alongside the new gym project. Brief finance and facilities updates were shared.
Discussion: Dr. Neumann introduced TXschools.org and presented two draft 25-26 school calendars (one mirroring this year's, the other with a later start date, shorter fall break, and longer school days). Feedback will be gathered from staff and families, with a final proposal in March. Dr. Neumann explained that four-day weeks have been considered and are not preferred due to family feedback and schedule constraints.
Action: The board approved a Region 12 contract for strategic/reconciliation services (no added cost) and a new electric provider contract.
Art: A mural proposal for the gym (Artprenticeship program, Summer 2025) was well-received, but needs a funding plan.
Information: Dr. Neumann discussed school closure/delay decision processes related to student/staff illness.
